HOLLISTER, CA – After 46 years of faithful and dedicated service, Michael D. Rovella, city letter carrier at the Hollister Post Office, will deliver his last letter on Monday, August 31, 2015. Rovella’s decision to retire did not come easily. He started his postal career on June 3, 1969, as a Part-Time Flexible (PTF) Carrier/Clerk at the Hollister Post Office. Throughout his 46 years of Postal Service, his love and dedication to the USPS and to the community he served will remain.

His children, Anthony, Donna, Michelle, and Paul Rovella, wrote a heartfelt tribute about their Dad’s USPS career that was addressed to Megan Brennan, Postmaster General of the United States, and Fredric Rolando, President of the National Association of Letter Carriers. The letter provided highlights of his career as a city carrier in the Hollister community.

Rovella has many milestones. He joined the prestigious Million Mile club in 2006 when he was honored for driving more than 30 years without a motor vehicle accident. He once came to the aid of an elderly customer  who had fallen down and was unable to get up to reach a phone to call for help.

Rovella said that the biggest change he witnessed in the Postal Service was automation and use of the computer. He said that there is a vast difference from when he first started as a PTF carrier/clerk when  all operations were manual and what exists today with computer programs, automated sorting and sequencing of mail. What he will miss the most is the relationships with his customers on his route assignment and his co-workers.
