SACRAMENTO, CA — Following in the footsteps of Sacramento's first postmaster, Henry E. Robinson, Esq, in 1849, Jagdeep Grewal will be the 29th Postmaster to serve the city. She will be sworn in Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. on the State Capitol North steps (at 11th & L). As Sacramento Postmaster, Grewal oversees 1,004 employees who process and deliver daily mail volume of more than 1,080,369 pieces to 345,676 delivery points (addresses), on 537 city delivery routes, 94 rural delivery routes and 19,713 Post Office boxes.
Pacific Area Vice President Dean Granholm will administer the oath of office. “I am thrilled for the opportunity to work with the City of Sacramento team through such challenging and exciting times,” said Grewal. “It is only through joint effort and collaboration that we can truly meet our mission of providing extraordinary service while keeping costs down.”
In 1988, Grewal began her career with the U.S. Postal Service in Orinda as a distribution window clerk in the Bay-Valley Postal District. Her managerial career began in 1993 as a first-line supervisor. Since 1993, Grewal has held many managerial and postmaster positions, including Postmaster Pacifica and Daly City in the San Francisco Postal District.
Grewal came to the Sacramento Postal District in 2010 as Post Office Operations manager, the position she held before being selected as Sacramento Postmaster. She succeeds Jeffrey Day, who is now the Bay-Valley District manager.
Grewal received a bachelor's degree in education and master’s degree in language arts from Punjab University in India. Additionally, she holds credentials in several Postal Service leadership programs.
Grewal is married to Apinderjit Grewal, her husband of 34 years. Together they have three children, son Apinderjit Jr., daughter Navdeep and son Yuvraj.
