Charles Patterson takes Oath of Office as Belvedere-Tiburon Postmaster

TIBURON, CA — On Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., Charles Patterson will follow a tradition that dates back to 1937 when Mrs. Stella Ehrenfelt became the first Postmaster of Belvedere. The name changed from Belvedere to Belvedere-Tiburon on June 1, 1956. Patterson will raise his right hand to be sworn in as the new Belvedere-Tiburon Postmaster at the Post Office, 6 Beach Rd, Belvedere, CA  94920.

Patterson started his U.S. Postal Service career in 1973 as a distribution clerk in Berkeley, CA. His first supervisory assignment was at the Berkeley Post Office in 1989. Over the years, he supervised in numerous Post Offices and served as customer services manager at the Berkeley, Oakland, San Leandro, and Richmond Post Offices, and he served as the Officer in Charge at the El Cerrito Post Office. Patterson was a workshop facilitator and instructor for the Bay-Valley Postal District, and part of a delivery route inspection team and group leader for 19 years.

“It has always been a pleasure to serve the customers with whom I have had the privilege to interact,” said Patterson. “I follow in the footsteps of many managers and postmasters who have demonstrated that the USPS can provide quality service by understanding our customers’ issues and communicating with employees to achieve excellent service. My goal is to achieve 100-percent accurate scanning of Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail and package delivery to our customers.” 

Patterson and his wife, Maria, live in Hercules. Patterson has four sons from a previous marriage, Kendrick, 37, Aaron, 35, Charles Orenthal, 27, and Charles Ortavius, 22. He enjoys photography, bid whist and bowling. He is a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Pittsburg. He is a former president of the National Association of Postal Supervisors Branch 127, Oakland, CA and is currently the National Association of Postal Supervisors California State Board Area Vice President.

As Belvedere-Tiburon Postmaster, Patterson manages all operations at the Belvedere-Tiburon Post Office with a total of 14 carrier delivery routes and 6,016 delivery points (residential business addresses) and 1,050 Post Office Boxes. He manages 25 employees who process and deliver a daily average of 55,677 pieces of mail.

Bobbi Riley, manager of Post Office Operations, will administer the official oath of office. Patterson replaces Monica Wilson who was promoted to the Sonoma Post Office.
