REDWOOD CITY, CA — Now when customers shop for sundries, smokes and cell phone accessories at the Redwood City Sequoia Smoke & Sundries, they can add postage and U.S. Postal Service products to their miscellanies.
On Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., customers will be treated to a grand opening ceremony by store owner Tomy Mathey and Postal Service officials as the store at 1061 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA 94063 becomes a Village Post Office (VPO).
At VPOs, customers are able to purchase Forever Stamps, drop off prepaid mail and packages and pick up Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes and envelopes. The convenience for customers is that many VPOs offer expanded business hours, including Sundays and holidays.
Sequoia Smoke & Sundries is a small convenient store that sells cigarettes, cigars, snacks, cell phone accessories, a variety of other items and lottery tickets. Located in a heavily populated shopping center, Mathey has owned the store for the past four years.
The store has convenient hours for Postal Service customers: Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Saturday 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., Sunday 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
VPOs and other Approved Postal Providers are operated by third parties and complement the Postal Service’s own network by offering customers expanded retail access to postal products and services at convenient hours and locations.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
