Customers are expected to bring in 612 million pieces of mail to Post Offices around the country on Monday, Dec. 14. Heavy package volume, as much as a 15% increase from last year, is expected to be part of that total, and much of it will be processed at two Bay-Valley Postal District mail processing centers. The San Jose Processing & Distribution Center at 1750 Lundy Ave., San Jose, CA 95101, has an automated package processing system (APPS) to handle a deluge of packages on the peak mailing day. In all, more than 6.8 million cards, letters and packages will flow through the building, an increase of 1 million pieces from a normal day. The Oakland Processing & Distribution Center at 1675 7th Street, Oakland, CA 94615, has a brand new small parcel sorting system (SPSS) to help handle the expected volume increase. In all, more than 11 million cards, letters and packages will flow through the building, an increase of 1.9 million pieces from a normal day. |
