MENDOCINO, CA — On Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., Stephanie Bishop will follow a tradition that dates back to 1858 when Lafayette Woodward became the first Postmaster of Mendocino. Bishop will raise her right hand to be sworn in as the new Mendocino Postmaster at the Saint Anthony’s Parrish Hall, 10700 Lansing Street, Mendocino, CA  95460.

Bishop started her U.S. Postal Service career in 1994 as a temporary employee in Fort Bragg, CA. She became a rural carrier assistant in 1998 and was promoted as a full-time rural carrier in 2003. She started her managerial career as a supervisor in 2014. She served as the Officer-in-Charge at the Mendocino Post Office prior to her promotion as Postmaster.

“To me, being a Postmaster is being part of a big family,” said Bishop. “You have a responsibility to that family to make sure that they are taken care of. I would like to see our Mendocino Post Office be the best on the coast. I want it to be a place where our customers (our family) can come to and know that we will take care of them.”

Bishop and her husband, Les, live in Fort Bragg, CA. They have two daughters, Nicole, 27, and Sarah, 23, and one son, Jesse, 19. She has one granddaughter age 5. She enjoys spending time with her family, hunting, fishing, camping, reading, and going to home-town football games.

As Mendocino Postmaster, Bishop manages all operations at the Mendocino Post Office with a total of two Highway Contract Routes and 794 delivery points (residential business addresses) and 1,796 Post Office Boxes. She manages five employees who process and deliver an average of 2,300 pieces of mail daily.

Post Office Operations Manager Bobbi Riley will administer the official oath of office. Bishop replaces Susan Reyes who is now Knights Landing Postmaster in the Sacramento Postal District.
