BERKELEY, CA — After 29 years of faithful and dedicated service, Sacramento Garcia, city letter carrier at the Elmwood Station, 2705 Webster Street, will make his last delivery on Thursday, March 31, 2016. Garcia started his postal career on January 2, 1987, as a Part-Time Flexible (PTF) Carrier at the Berkeley Post Office. Garcia says after 29 years of Postal Service what will always remain with him is his love and dedication to the USPS and to the community he served.
Garcia has many stories about his experience as a letter carrier. He once came to the aid of an elderly customer, who was a former ambassador from Austria. The customer had locked herself out of her home and could not contact her children for assistance. The customer knew Garcia very well as her regular letter carrier for several years and felt comfortable asking him to help her to get inside her home.
Garcia said that although he will miss the relationships with his customers on his route assignments and his co-workers, he is looking forward to taking handyman courses at a local adult education school to learn how to fix and repair his home.
