GEYSERVILLE, CA — On Friday, April 8, 2016, at 12:30 PM, Rhonda Ahanotu will follow a tradition that dates back to 1937 when Lillian Brackett became the first Postmaster of Geyserville. Ahanotu will raise her right hand to be sworn in as the new Postmaster at the Geyserville Post Office 116 School House Ln, Geyserville, CA 95441.
Ahanotu started her career with the United States Postal Service in 1988 as a Central Forwarding System (CFS) clerk at the Petaluma Processing and Distribution Center. Ahanotu worked as an Automated Flat Sorting Machine (AFSM) operator, a Distribution Bar Code Sorter (DBCS) operator, administrative support for the Manager of Post Office Operations, and as a Supervisor Customer Service, prior to fulfilling her ultimate goal to become a Postmaster.
Ahanotu’s work schedule afforded her the security and opportunity she needed to raise her children. She and her husband, Amy, have two children. Their son, Onye, has a Master’s Degree in Material Science Engineering and their daughter, Chima, is a recent graduate of Long Beach State University with a degree in Health Science.
“Being a Postmaster means not only being a leader in your community but also a member of your community,” said Ahanotu. Soon after being named Postmaster, Ahanotu joined the local Chamber of Commerce to establish herself as part of the business community.
Ahanotu lives in Rohnert Park, CA with her husband.
As Postmaster, Ahanotu manages all operations at the Geyserville Post Office that has one rural route with 612 delivery points (residential business addresses) and 852 PO Boxes. She manages three employees who process and deliver an average of 2,600 pieces of mail daily.
Maria Lane, Manager of Post Office Operations (A), will administer the official oath of office. Ahanotu replaces Laura Hagins, who now works at the Santa Rosa Post Office as Supervisor Customer Service.
