SAN FRANCISCO — The stamp image of the three-masted sailing ship Balclutha will be unfurled in a dedication ceremony at the Hyde Street Pier as part of the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary. The ceremony at 11:00 AM will highlight the San Francisco Maritime Historical National Park as one of the 16 Forever Stamp images being dedicated simultaneously on June 2, 2016.

“There is much shared history between the U.S. Mail and ships such as the Balclutha,” said Deborah Woodrum, San Francisco District Manager of the United States Postal Service. “They both carried precious cargo. The cargo in the ship’s holds contained the essential supplies needed to promote commerce and for the livelihoods of settlers; and the mail contained a different kind of cargo -- the letters that kept people connected over vast distances.”

Joining Woodrum in the stamp dedication ceremony will be Kevin Hendricks, Superintendent, San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, and Tim Campbell, San Francisco photographer whose photograph was used to create the Balclutha stamp image.

“The Centennial Forever stamps are a fantastic way to recognize and promote the National Park Service Centennial, and we feel extremely honored to be one of the 16 parks chosen,” said Superintendent Hendricks.
