DANVILLE, CA — After 35 years of faithful and dedicated service, Keith Carlson, Distribution Clerk at the Danville Post Office, 2605 Camino Tassajara Rd, will sort and distribute his last piece of mail on Friday, July 29, 2016.  Carlson started his postal career on February 7, 1981, as a Part-Time Flexible (PTF) clerk at the Danville Post Office.  He says after 35 years of federal service what will always remain with him is his love and dedication to the USPS and to the community he served.

Carlson has many stories about his experience as a clerk.  When he first started in 1981, everything was done manually.  He fondly remembers having to hand-cancel the letters and large envelopes that customers dropped off prior to dispatching the mail to the central processing and distribution centers. Over the years, he learned and worked every aspect of mail processing and distribution and how it moved through the system.  The Blackhawk community was growing and the delivery growth forced the Post Office to hire new carriers.

“Every piece of mail matters,” said Carlson. “Whether it is mailed through the retail window, picked up in the collection boxes, or mailed through the bulk mail entry unit, it is important to the mailer.  Customers expect and deserve excellent service.  That’s what I want all employees to understand.  Treat each day as a learning experience.”

Being a window clerk in downtown Danville, he got to know Danville locals.  People would recognize him at stores and he bonded with the community really well.

Carlson said he will miss the relationships with his customers and his co-workers, but he decided that it was time to spend quality time with his ailing mother and his two grown sons.
