LOS ANGELES, CA — Ken Snavely was officially sworn in as Los Angeles Postmaster today during an installation ceremony in front of a large gathering of his employees and fellow Postal Service managers.

As Postmaster of Los Angeles, Snavely is responsible for the management of 62 postal stations in the City of Los Angeles. He oversees 2,388 career employees who provide service to over one million street addresses and Post Office Boxes located within the 900 ZIP Code range, serving approximately four million residents and 95,000 businesses. He administers an annual operating budget of more than $250 million.

That great amount of accountability does not faze Snavely, who started his career in San Pedro as a letter carrier in 1983. “I look forward to the challenge of managing the U.S. Mail for the most populous city in the state of California, and second largest in the nation,” said Snavely. “I’m honored to have this responsibility and trust placed in my hands, and I will strive to provide our customers excellent service.”

Snavely has amassed a wealth of experience during his 33-year career. After delivering mail for six years, Snavely entered management as a part-time supervisor in 1989 and was promoted to full time management in 1992.  He went on to hold Officer-in-Charge positions in Santa Monica, Gardena and Palos Verdes.

From 2002 to 2006, Snavely was a Post Office Operations Manager in the Long Beach area.

From there, Snavely expanded his experience as the Postmaster of Long Beach, and as acting plant manager at the Long Beach Processing & Distribution Center.

Snavely was promoted to the position of San Diego Postmaster in 2012. He became the 38th Los Angeles Postmaster on January 23, 2016.

Snavely earned a B.A. degree in Political Science from Cal State Los Angeles in 1993.
