SAN JOSE, CA – Aron Jones will become the 27th San Jose Postmaster, dating to 1849 when J. D. Hoppe was the first Postmaster.  On Friday, October 28, 2016, at 11:00am, Jones will take his official oath as San Jose Postmaster in the rotunda at San Jose City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara St., San Jose, CA 95113. Vice President of Pacific Area Operations Dean Granholm will administer the official oath of office.

Jones began his postal career in 1994 as a casual clerk/carrier in Los Banos, CA. He was promoted to his first management position in Morgan Hill in 2000. He progressed through the management ranks, holding several positions of increasing responsibility, including the senior plant manager in Salinas, senior manager of distribution operations at the San Jose Processing & Distribution Center, manager of customer service in post offices at Scotts Valley, East Santa Cruz and the Sanchez Annex, Santa Clara.

Jones began his quest to become a Postmaster by holding an officer-in-charge position at the Seaside Post Office, eventually becoming Postmaster at Hollister, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz. He eventually would become the Manager of Post Office Operations where he had management oversight of 52 Post Offices in the south counties of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey. He served as the executive-level Postmaster of San Jose prior to being selected as its 27th Postmaster.

Throughout his postal career, Jones has demonstrated strong leadership and a proven ability to develop cooperative teamwork between various operational and customer service units.

“A strong team is built on a strong coalition with labor and management and creating a positive work environment for all employees,” said Jones.  “Once you have established cohesiveness in an inclusive work environment, employees begin to understand how the quality of their work affects where the work goes next, and how that work ultimately affects customer satisfaction. It is only through joint effort that we can truly meet the requirements of all our customers, including our own employees.”

Jones, 41, has a daughter, Venessa, 13. He resides in Corralitos, CA in Santa Cruz County. He enjoys time in Lake Tahoe and deer and duck hunting. Actively involved in community outreach, Jones is a member of the San Jose Chamber of Commerce.

“Becoming the Postmaster of the City of San Jose is a life-long dream,” said Jones.  “The Post Office from its very beginning is woven into the fabric of what connects all Americans. We serve as the common bond to all Americans, as the carrier of news and knowledge and an instrument of trade and industry. My goal is to continue in that proud tradition.”

As Postmaster, Jones is responsible for all delivery and retail operations of 19 post office branches with 638 city and rural routes, 27,310 PO Boxes, and more than 391,000 delivery stops (business and residential addresses).  Jones manages 1,075 employees who process and deliver a mail volume of more than 1.5 million pieces daily. The annual revenue for the San Jose Post Office is more than $140 million.
