SAN FRANCISCO, CA — If you have ever read a child’s letter to Santa, you would never doubt the spirit that lives in a child’s heart. For more than a century, the Post Offices around the country serve as Santa’s official mailbox. As in Christmas’s past, the Letters to Santa program has opened the hearts of volunteers who wish to become Secret Santa to countless children, many who just wish for basic necessities like food, clothing, shelter, or a missing parent.
Letters from around the postal district will be available for volunteers to go through in the customer lobby at the San Francisco Processing & Distribution Center, at 1300 Evans Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94188.
Individuals, charitable organizations and corporations interested in making a child’s wish come true are welcome to visit “Santa Station” on one of the following Tuesdays and Thursdays:
Dates to View and Select a Letter
|
Thursday, December 1 - 11 am to 1 pm |
Tuesday, December 6 - 11 am to 1 pm |
|
Thursday, December 8 - 11 am to 1 pm |
Tuesday, December 13 - 11 am to 3 pm |
|
Thursday, December 15 - 11 am to 1 pm |
Tuesday, December 20 - 11 am to 3 pm |
Customers and organizations wanting to adopt a letter must come to the customer lobby in person. Both individuals and organizations must fill out the proper forms before any letters can be viewed. State or Federal ID is required. To protect the safety and identity of the child and family, names and addresses will not be provided. To send a response or package, you must return to the Post Office on one of the listed Tuesdays above with your card or package and proper postage. A Postal employee will then affix the mailing address at the time of mailing.
Thousands of volunteers and organizations work with Post Offices to respond to letters from children, not only to answer their letters but to also provide some basic necessities that children, and adults, often ask for themselves and family members. In many cases, children ask for basic necessities -- food, clothing, shelter, and/or a missing parent. For more information, you may contact 415.550.5005.
