What:

The United States Postal Service cordially invites the public to attend the inauguration of the new Small Parcel Sorting System (SPSS) machine at the Burlingame Priority Mail Annex.

The SPSS is a semi-automated system for processing small packages. With an estimated 20-hour run, the machine can process about 120K parcels, which will help meet the future needs and goals of USPS as it faces ever-increasing parcel volumes largely due to online buying, with buyers choosing Priority Mail as their shipment choice.

When:

Thursday, April 14, 6 PM to 8 PM

Where:

Burlingame Priority Mail Annex
1625 Rollins Rd
Burlingame, CA 94010

BACKGROUND:

The Small Package Sorting System (SPSS) is a new piece of equipment specifically designed to sort small packages under 20 pounds in weight at the rate of about 6,000 packages per hour, using six semi-automatic induction sites. Packages weighing 20 pounds and under account for the vast majority of the Postal Service package volume today.
