What: |
On Monday, September 19, 2016, the community of Descanso will experience an event that occurs only once a century; it’s called Date Meets ZIP. The date of 9-19-16 will match the community’s ZIP Code of 91916. This rare occurrence will be recognized at a small event at the Descanso Post Office. Residents and businesses are invited to bring their own postcards, letters or purchase items from the Descanso and have it stamped with the commemorative postmark to mark the occasion. A special keepsake envelope created for the occasion will also be on-sale. The postmark will be available for 30 days after the event. The Post Office will have light refreshments and celebrate the history of the Overland Mail Route established by James Birch in 1857. |
