Elaine Talamantez takes Oath of Office as Garberville Postmaster

GABERVILLE, CA — On Friday, March 3, 2017, at 1:00 PM, Elaine Talamantez will raise her right hand to be sworn in as the new Postmaster at the Garberville Post Office, 368 Sprowl Creek Road,  Garberville, CA 95542. The town had been established since 1874 and in 1879 Jacob Garber changed the name to Garberville.

Talamantez started her postal career in 1996 as a Postmaster Relief at Junction City, CA, and later became the Postmaster. She also served as Postmaster of Happy Camp, Orleans, Orick and Trinidad. She left for Colorado when she became the Postmaster of Cedaredge, CO, and returned to California in 2016.

 “I look forward to strengthening the relationship between the Postal Service and the community, and creating a healthy work environment for my employees,” said Talamantez.”

Talamantez, 60, enjoys beach combing and is a rock collector. She volunteers her time with the Relay for Life and collects and sends clothes to other countries. She has three children, Michael, 40, Stephanie, 28, and Keith, 23. She resides in McKinleyville.

As Postmaster, Talamantez manages all postal operations for the community of Garberville that has two city routes and two highway contract routes, with 1010 delivery stops (residential business addresses) and 781 PO Boxes. Talamantez manages 11 employees,  including, four Remotely Managed Post Offices (RMPO), offices that offer part-time window services. The Garberville Post office processes and delivers an average of 4,000 pieces of mail daily.

Maria Lane, Manager of Post Office Operations, will administer the official oath of office.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
