GLEN ELLEN, CA — On Thursday, April 14, 2017, at 1:00 PM, Shanda Duro will raise her right hand to be sworn in as the new Postmaster at the Glen Ellen Fire Dept., 13445 Arnold Dr., Glen Ellen, CA 95442. Duro will follow a proud tradition that dates back to 1872 when San Francisco steamboat captain Charles Justi was the first Postmaster.

Duro started her postal career as a part-time flexible (PTF) clerk in 2000, and for 15 ½ years she remained a PTF, then became a regular clerk before being promoted to Postmaster less than a year later.

“Our brand is how we look as much as what we do,” said Duro. “I have already talked to the community about our compliance, and I intend to create a warmer environment for my customers as well as my employees. Part of that plan is to repaint, clean and update postal information in the lobby.

Duro, 45, enjoys hiking, gardening, and of course being a Postmaster. She has two daughters, Darcy, 25, and Cortney, 21. She resides in Santa Rosa.

Duro volunteers her time in community theater and is a commissioner for the Lee Vining Volunteer Fire Protection District.

As Postmaster, Duro manages all postal operations at the Glen Ellen Post Office with two rural routes, with 2,400 delivery points (addresses) and 1,454 PO Boxes. Duro manages seven employees.

Glen Ellen Fire Chief Matt Atkinson will administer the official oath of office.
