CONCORD, CA — On Friday, April 28, 2017 at 10:00 AM, Raul Acosta will follow a proud tradition that dates back to 1872 when the first Post Office opened. Acosta will raise his right hand as he is sworn in as Postmaster at the Concord Post Office, 2121 Meridian Park Blvd., Concord, CA 94520.

Acosta  started his postal career in 1986 as a city carrier in Danville, CA. He was soon promoted to supervisor of customer services that followed with a promotion as a customer service analyst at the district office in Oakland. He served in a variety of higher-level management positions throughout the postal district and was the Manager Customer Services at the Concord Post Office prior to his selection as the Postmaster

“My goal as a Postmaster is to develop a strong team of postal employees, carriers, clerks and managers, who are engaged in building strong customer relationships with all our customers,” said Acosta. “My priority is to establish timely and efficient delivery service and make every customer interaction a pleasant one.”

Acosta enjoys working on his cars and gardening, but treasures most the time he spends with his grandchildren. He and his wife, Jeannette, have two children, Jennifer, 31, and Randall, 28, and the proud grandparents of Eli, 4, and Silas, 3. They reside in Discovery Bay.

Acosta has a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the Distrital University, Bogota, Colombia, and a management degree from Los Medanos College in Pittsburg. He is involved in his local church, Calvary Temple and volunteers in community outreach with the Convoy of Hope.

As Postmaster, Acosta is responsible for all delivery and retail operations for the city of Concord, Pleasant Hill and four finance stations with 122 city routes, 3,242 PO Boxes, and 67,298 delivery stops (business and residential addresses). Acosta manages 255 employees who process and deliver a mail volume of more than 235,000 pieces, including 10,000 parcels, daily.

Acosta replaces Anthony Daniels who retired. Cedric Brown, Manager of Post Office Operations, will administer the official oath of office.
