Mauricio Arguello takes Oath of Office as Hayward Postmaster

HAYWARD, CA —On Friday, September 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM, Mauricio Arguello will follow a proud tradition that dates back to 1860 when William Hayward was the first Postmaster of Haywood, which was the name of the city before it was renamed Hayward in 1911. Arguello will raise his right hand as he is sworn in as Postmaster at the Hayward Post Office, 24438 Santa Clara St., Hayward, CA 94544.

Arguello, 57, started his postal career as a city carrier in 1985 in Concord, CA, eventually becoming a supervisor there. He went on to other management positions at the Antioch, Hayward, Fremont, Castro Valley and now as Postmaster Hayward.

“It is a great honor to serve as the Postmaster of the community in which I also live,“ said Arguello. “I plan to promote the true spirit of the U.S. Postal Service by providing the best possible service to the people in Hayward and Castro Valley, and to provide a safe and healthy work environment for my employees.”

Arguello enjoys traveling and outdoor activities. He and his wife, Agnes, reside in Hayward. Arguello has two step-children, Inah and Andrew, and three daughters from a previous marriage, Regina, Maylene and Jennifer.

He has management degrees from UNAN -Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua, and San Francisco City College.

As Postmaster, Arguello is responsible for all delivery and retail operations for Hayward and Castro Valley with 167 city routes and one rural route, 4,982 PO Boxes, and 90,292 delivery stops (business and residential addresses). Arguello manages 308 employees who process and deliver a daily mail volume of more than 355,000 pieces.

Cedric Brown, Manager of Post Office Operations, will administer the official oath of office.
