SAN DIEGO — The U.S. Postal Service will celebrate the wonder of sharks by unveiling the Sharks Forever stamps featuring five species that inhabit American waters — the mako, thresher, great white, hammerhead and whale shark.

The event takes place on Tuesday, October 17th, beginning at 9:00am at the San Diego Zoo’s Leopard Shark & Penguin Encounter located at 2920 Zoo Drive (in the “Africa Rocks” plaza). The stamps will be unveiled by U.S. Postal Service San Diego District Marketing Manager, Christine Carmichael along with Retail Manager, Roseann DelleTorri.

Scheduled speakers include the San Diego Zoo Director, Dwight Scott; Zoo Curator, Kim Lovich; and Post-Doctoral Researcher of the Southwest Fisheries Science Center, Dovi Kavec.

There will be all day stamp sales, as well as a special pictorial cancellation cachet commemorating the event, available for purchase. An educational program led by Dovi Kavec will also take place in front of the aquarium. “Shark postcards” will be distributed for children to color, purchase a shark stamp, and place into the mail stream.

Since the month of October is “free” for children at the world famous San Diego Zoo, this is an ideal event for a fun, educational, and affordable experience for the entire family.
