FOREST KNOLLS, CA — On Thursday May 3rd, 2018 Khit Sondara will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1916 when Forest Knoll’s first Postmaster William Mck. Kilbury took office.

Sondara will raise his right hand to take the official Oath of Office as the Postmaster of Forest Knolls at a noon ceremony at the Forest Knolls Post Office, 6 Castro St., Forest Knolls, CA 94933.

Sondara began his U.S. Postal Service career 20 years ago as a window and distribution clerk at the San Anselmo Post Office, where he became a familiar face to customers over the last two decades. In 2002, he became the lead clerk and has donned additional hats as an on-the-job instructor and acting supervisor for the San Anselmo Office.

While leaving San Anselmo will be a big change for Sondara, he states he is excited about this new chapter to be the Postmaster of Forest Knolls and to have the chance to “be actively engaged within the community, and to ensure a positive customer experience for all.”

Sondara resides in Hercules, CA with his wife Phanousone, son Kevin and daughter Kendra.

In his spare time, Sondara enjoys working with minority business owners in his community and assisting with Sunday services at the Temple he attends.

In other efforts to assist his community, Sondara dedicates time to helping the homeless and assisting those affected by the Sonoma County fire.

As Postmaster of Forest Knolls, Sondara oversees three employees who process over 3,000 pieces of mail daily for delivery to 648 Post Office Boxes.

Sondara succeeds previous Forest Knolls Postmaster Michael Murphy, who has since retired.

Manager of Post Office Operations Maria Lane will administer the official oath of office.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
