SAN MARTIN, CA — On Friday July 6, 2018 Charlotte Mina Hernandez will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1850 when San Martin’s first Postmaster Christopher Mangels took office.
Hernandez will raise her right hand to take the official Oath of Office as the new Postmaster of San Martin at a 10:00 a.m. ceremony held at the beautiful Clos LaChance Winery located at 1 Hummingbird Lane, San Martin, CA 95046. Manager of Post Office Operations Rick Keppeler will administer the official oath of office.
Hernandez began her U.S. Postal Service career 18 years ago as a clerk. For six years, she worked as a city letter carrier before going back to being a clerk until she became a supervisor in 2017, the position she held until being selected as Postmaster.
As Postmaster of San Martin, Hernandez hopes to be a staple in the community. “I want to show the community that we truly care and appreciate their business,” said Hernandez.
Hernandez resides in Gilroy with her husband Christian Hernandez and their five children and step-children ages 6 to 21. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling and spending time with her family and friends.
Hernandez continues her community engagement as treasurer for the past four years for the youth sports team Gilroy Pop Warner.
As Postmaster of San Martin, which has a population of over 7,000 residents, Hernandez manages nine employees who process and deliver close to 11,000 pieces of mail and packages daily to 1,587 street addresses. The office also delivers to 1,177 Post Office Boxes.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
