NEWCASTLE, CA — On Wednesday, August 8, 2018, Leland Chernoff will follow a proud tradition dating back when Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster General of the United States.
Chernoff will raise his right hand to take the official oath of office as the new Newcastle Postmaster at an 11:00 a.m. ceremony at the Newcastle Post Office located at 9241 Old State Highway Road, Newcastle, CA 95658. Post Office Operations Manager Mark Cole will administer the official oath of office.
Chernoff began his U.S. Postal Service career in 1995 as a letter carrier in Oakland, CA. In 2014, he began his management career supervising carriers and clerks in Roseville, CA.
“I am extremely proud to be chosen as the new Postmaster for Newcastle,” Chernoff said. “My mentor really helped me to see that if I set stretch goals that I would be able to attain them. I look forward to living up to my responsibilities as postmaster. I aim to serve the Newcastle community by providing them with stellar customer service by means of my expertly trained team of dedicated employees.”
Chernoff enjoys spending time with his two children, Ryan, 16 and Megan, 9.
As Newcastle Postmaster, Chernoff oversees four rural delivery routes, with more than 7,000 pieces of daily mail volume. In addition, Newcastle services over 1000 daily Post Office box deliveries. Chernoff manages nine employees.
