Monica Fleming takes Oath of Office as Tarzana Postmaster

Tarzana Postmaster Monica Fleming

TARZANA, CA — On Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., Monica Fleming will follow a proud tradition that dates back to 1930 when Mrs. E. Louise Holmquist was appointed as the first Postmaster of Tarzana.   

Fleming will raise her right hand to be sworn in as the new Postmaster at the Tarzana Post Office, 5609 Yolanda Ave., Tarzana, CA 91356.

In 1989, Fleming began her postal career as a city carrier in San Fernando, CA.  She began to fill in for supervisors in 2003 and graduated from the Associate Supervisor Program in 2005. 

In 2014, she accepted a temporary assignment as the station manager of Sylmar Post Office and was recognized as Manager of the Year.  In 2015, she was promoted to customer service manager in Castaic.  She served as acting Postmaster in San Fernando Post Office until her promotion as postmaster of Woodland Hills Post Office in 2016.

“When I began my career with the Posta Service, I never imagined becoming a Postmaster,” said Fleming. “I am humbled and honored to be the Postmaster of Tarzana Post Office.  I am blessed to work with a great team of people. I am proud to be able to impart my knowledge and develop my team members to provide stellar customer service.”

Fleming and her family reside in Lake Balboa, CA. She has an Associate Degree in Sociology from Los Angeles Mission College. She is also co-director of Berean Ministries, for which she organizes activities and facilitates lessons to encourage and empower women.

As Tarzana Postmaster, Fleming manages all operations at the Tarzana Post Office with a total of 21 city routes, delivering to 15,048 addresses and 1,572  Post Office Boxes.  She manages 43 employees who process, distribute, and deliver an average of 74,886 pieces of mail daily.

Sierra Coastal District Manager Post Office Operations Mary Bream will administer the official oath of office.  Fleming replaces Robert Garfinkle who is now Postmaster in Sequim, WA.
