TURLOCK, CA — On Friday, October 19, 2018, Neil Gonzalez will follow a proud tradition dating back when Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster General of the United States.

Gonzalez will raise his right hand to take the official oath of office as the new Turlock Postmaster at a 12 noon ceremony at the Turlock Post Office, 555 E. Main Street, Turlock, CA 95380. Post Office Operations Manager Sal Cardinal will administer the official oath of office.

Gonzalez began his U.S. Postal Service career in 1998 as a mail handler in Oakland, CA. In 2006, he began his management career supervising carriers and clerks in Livermore, CA. Gonzalez has served in areas of increasing responsibility in the Sacramento Postal District. Since 2011, he has been the manager of Stockton Main Post Office. He has been Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified.

“To me, being postmaster is a prestigious position that entails a high level of responsibility, commitment and integrity, not only to our customers, but to my employees as well,” Gonzalez said. “USPS is the original social network. We are connecting people every single day, the same way Ben Franklin did in his day. I am proud to be a part of that rich history. As postmaster, my goal is to ensure the safety of my employees, while providing quality service to our customers. I am also a strong proponent of helping local business owners expand their reach by means of our new innovations such as Informed Delivery and improved visibility with precise and accurate scanning.”

Gonzalez enjoys spending time with his family on annual trips to Disneyland and Lake Tahoe. He also enjoys BBQ, cooking, fishing and watching movies. He is a huge East Bay sports fan of the Oakland Raiders, Oakland A’s and the Golden State Warriors. He is married to his wife, Heidi. They have four children, Madilyn, 21, Isabelle, 18, Emily, 12, and Gabriel, 8. They have two grandchildren, Danny, 3 and Nevaeh, 2.

Gonzalez earned his Associates of Arts degree in Computer Business Administration. He is a member of the Turlock Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce. He is very involved in the community and has had a presence for the last two years at the Asparagus Festival promoting the Breast Cancer Research Forever Stamp. In the past, he has helped as a volunteer with the Oakland Food Bank.

As Turlock Postmaster, Gonzalez oversees 39 city and rural routes which average over 91,000 city and rural daily mail deliveries. In addition, Turlock services nearly 4,000 Post Office Box deliveries. Gonzalez manages 80 employees.
