U.S. Postal Service will be present at Evacuation Centers to help process Change of Addresses and offer six months of Free PO Boxes to fire victims

CHICO, CA – Representatives from the U.S. Postal Service will be at the following evacuation centers:

  • OPEN: Yuba-Sutter Fairground, 442 Franklin Ave, Yuba City, CA 95991
  • OPEN: Butte County Fairgrounds, 199 E Hazel St, Gridley, CA 95948
  • THIS SHELTER IS FULL: Glenn County Fairgrounds, 221 E Yolo St, Orland, CA 95963
  • THIS SHELTER IS FULL: Oroville Nazarene Church, 2238 Monte Vista Ave, Oroville, CA 95966
  • THIS SHELTER IS FULL: Neighborhood Church, 2801 Notre Dame Blvd, Chico, CA 95928
  • THIS SHELTER IS CLOSED: Plumas County Fairgrounds, 204 Fairground Rd, Quincy CA 95971

In addition to providing change of address (COA) information and processing COA applications, the Sacramento postal district will grant fire victims six months of free PO Box service.

  • Customers are allotted one free, size 1, PO Box that may be obtained for each potential carrier delivery point of service affected or destroyed by the fires (one box per affected address at one of the locations listed below). Customers are required to bring proper photo ID in order to validate address affected.
  • Customers must submit a Change of Address (COA) from their affected street address to their newly assigned PO Box number.  These COAs can be done online at usps.com, or if they prefer to fill out a hard copy COA form, they can be obtained/dropped off at any local Post Office or deposited into the mail.

These free boxes will be made available to customers for six months from date issued. After the six month period has ended, customers will have the option to forward their mail to a new address or may continue to use the PO Box at the current semi-annual rate. Please use this letter as authorization for the PO Box rental fee as outlined above.
