Steamboat Springs — On April 29, all current Post Office Box holders at the Sundance Plaza Station, located at 425 Anglers Dr., will begin picking up their mail at the main Steamboat Springs Post Office at 200 Lincoln Ave.

No box numbers or ZIP Code will change, only the location of the Post Office Boxes.

“This will allow us to maximize our space downtown, saving on the energy, lease, and personnel costs associated with two locations,” according to Colorado/Wyoming District Marketing Manager Mike Cook.

The transfer is the second phase of a previously announced consolidation of Steamboat Springs operations. The first phase occurred in January, 2010, when retail operations moved to the Downtown location. This second phase will put all operations under a single roof.

Currently, the Sundance box section is underutilized, with nearly 30 percent of the boxes unrented. The downtown office has been remodeled to accommodate the relocated boxes and the changeover will occur on the weekend of April 27-28.

On Saturday, April 27, access to Sundance Plaza Station will be limited after 7 a.m., to facilitate the transfer. Any residual box mail not picked up previously will move to the new location and will be available Monday morning.

The move ensures the Postal Service will have a presence in the downtown core for years to come.

The move is expected to save the Postal Service more than $1 million over a 10-year period.
