DENVER — The 2015 Colorado election process is underway and the United States Postal Service is urging citizens to mail back ballots now to ensure every vote is counted.

According to state law, County Clerks and Recorders must be in possession of the ballot no later than the close of polls on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Only ballots received by that date will be counted.

A Postmark does not count.

Earlier this month, more than 3.5 million ballots were mailed to registered voters.

Postal Service District Manager Selwyn Epperson, who oversees mail operations for the state, says Colorado postal employees are ready for the return of those ballots.

“We’ve already processed thousands of ballots and are delivering them to the clerks and recorders in Colorado’s 64 counties,” said Epperson. “The Postal Service anticipates a large influx this week and we are ready to ensure each and every Colorado vote is counted this year.”

As a reminder, all ballots require postage and in some instances extra postage is necessary because of the ballot’s weight.

There are also drop off locations in each county which are specified on ballot instructional material.

“The Postal Service has served a role in the very fabric of this nation for two and a half centuries,” said Epperson. “We are honored to be part of the Colorado Election process.”
