DENVER, CO — Sam Reed was sworn in officially as the City of Denver’s 35th Postmaster today during an installation ceremony at the Colorado State Capitol. With 20 years of Postal Service experience, Reed supervises more than 1,400 employees who work out of 28 Post Office stations, branches and other offices, and delivers an estimated 2.1 million pieces of mail each day to about 500,000 homes and businesses.

U.S. Postal Service Western Area Vice President Greg Graves swore Reed into office at the brief ceremony.

Reed began his postal career in 1998 as a letter carrier in Las Vegas, NV. Since then, he has worked as a manager in several Nevada, Arizona, and Colorado postal facilities. In 2015, he was promoted as Colorado Springs, CO, Postmaster before coming to Denver last year as acting Postmaster.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Reed said he looks forward to working with Denver Post Office employees to offer outstanding delivery and retail service to the community.

“I wanted this job because I think I can make a difference – in our organization, in our employees, and in how we serve our community,” said Reed. “In my short time here, I have encountered more than a few employees who care about their organization and care about the mail. Outstanding service is their calling card. I am surrounded by great staff and support.

“I am committed to creating a positive work environment for all employees – an environment that sets high standards, that recognizes outstanding performance, and everyone is treated with respect,” said Reed.

The U.S. Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
