DENVER — Evacuations and road closures have forced the Postal Service to stop delivery to more than 360 homes due to the spread of the Spring Fire. The mail, which includes checks, medications, and commerce, is safely being held at the Post Office.

All mail destined for these addresses is available for pickup at either the Fort Garland Post Office, located at 313 Hwy 159, or the La Veta Post Office located  at 117 E Ryus Ave, until further notice.

“Your mail is safe with us and we hold it until all of us are allowed back into the area,” said Postmaster Janet Manzanares.

One solution to coming in to check your mail every day is Informed Delivery.

Informed Delivery is a free USPS service that allows postal customers to digitally preview their mail and manage packages scheduled to arrive.

After signing up at www.InformedDelivery.com, you’ll get a daily email that shows greyscale images of the exterior, address side of letter-sized mailpieces and also tracks incoming packages.

Future delivery decisions will be made after consulting with local emergency managers.
