DENVER — The Postal Service has been busy collecting, processing and delivering hundreds of thousands of completed ballots without delay to county clerks and recorders. However, if a voter hasn’t mailed back their ballot, the Postal Service and Colorado Secretary State both recommend that voters now use a local election drop box or deliver their ballot in person to the county clerk.

According to State law, ballots must be received by election officials no later than 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6. A Postmark does not count. Voters who have not yet completed their ballots are urged to hand deliver them to their local election office or designated drop box by the deadline.

“As a proud partner in this year’s general election, the Postal Service has already processed hundreds of thousands of completed ballots already by Colorado voters,” said USPS Colorado/Wyoming District Manager Kevin Romero. “According to state law, a postmark doesn’t count, so our advice to those voters who have not yet mailed their ballots is to hand-deliver them to their local election office to ensure they meet the 7 p.m. deadline on Tuesday, Nov. 6, to be counted.”

Voters should contact their local County Clerk and Recorder to obtain information about voting by mail, alternate voting options, and other rules pertaining to their jurisdiction.

Postal employees in Colorado have handled more than 50 million pieces of political mail and nearly 4 million ballots this election season.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
