BRISTOL, CT — Postal officials report structural damages inside the Forestville Station (22 East Main Street) in Bristol will require customers of that facility to use the Bristol Main Post Office for the foreseeable future.
Officials note that there were no injuries or compromise of mail, but roof leaks and standing water inside the building forces an emergency suspension of operations at the Forestville Station. The site, a leased property, is being closed effective immediately.
There is no timetable for repairs to the facility.
In the interim, affected post office box customers are instructed to pick up mail at the Bristol Post Office (151 North Main Street) which is approximately 2.5 miles away.
Hours at the Bristol facility are Mondays to Fridays, from 8 am to 5 pm, and Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm.
The Forestville Station has approximately 200 post office box customers. They will receive hand-over service of their mail in Bristol Post Office where identification may be requested.
There are no letter carriers associated with that unit and there are no changes to delivery or collection of mail in the area. The blue collection box outside the Forestville Station will remain in place with regular scheduled collections of mail.
Similar concerns after a roof collapse in the facility forced a temporary move of postal operations from the Forestville site last spring.
