Raymond W. Hearn to be installed as Wilbraham Postmaster

Wilbraham, MA — On Friday, May 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m., Raymond W. Hearn will be installed as the new Postmaster of Wilbraham, MA.  The ceremony will take place at the Wilbraham Post Office, located at 40 Post Office Park in Wilbraham.

District Manager Kimberly J. Peters will administer the oath of office, while Hearn’s close friend Elizabeth Ruetsch, who is travelling from San Francisco to attend the ceremony, will hold the bible. The Benediction will be led by Father Serrano from St. Cecilia’s Church.

Speakers at the event include Massachusetts State Representative Angelo Puppolo, USPS District Manager Peters, Post Office Operations Manager Carissa Surprise and Postmaster Hearn.

USPS Acting Supervisor Danielle Harpin will serve as Master of Ceremonies, the Color Guard will be led by Scott Brewer, nephew of Wilbraham Dog Officer Joseph Brewer, and the Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Hearn’s daughter, Keira Hearn.  The National Anthem will be sung by Springfield, MA Mailhandler (USPS) Quinton Jordan.

Special presentations will be made to Officer Brewer by Postmaster Hearn and by United States Inspection Service Special Agent Richard Tracy.

Hearn began his postal career in 1993 as a mailhandler and was promoted to Supervisor of Delivery Operations in 2000 and then promoted to Supervisor of Customer Services in 2001. He has served as Officer in Charge in several offices and prior to his current assignment was Supervisor of Customer Services in Springfield.

Hearn has extensive experience in managing post offices which he gained while serving in Officer in Charge assignments, including in Wilbraham. He lives in Springfield MA and is very happy with his new assignment. “I like the Wilbraham community and hope to have a strong presence here,” the new postmaster said, adding, “I have many family ties here in Wilbraham and hope to serve this community to the best of my ability.”

As postmaster, Hearn will oversee approximately 50 employees who sort and deliver more than 16.5 million pieces of mail each year.

A special cancellation, seen below, will be available at the event at no charge on items bearing First-Class postage or more. They are then available for 30 days by either visiting the post office or by mailing a request for the cancellation to the postmaster at the address noted above.

The public is invited to attend.  Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

The Special Cancellation will commemorate the swearing in of Hearn, the 27th postmaster to be named in Wilbraham.
