Nineteen New Haven Letter Carriers will receive the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Award for safe driving by the US Postal Service’s CT Valley District Manager David Mastroianni, Jr.

Background:

The National Safety Council’s Million Mile Award recognizes professional drivers who have not had an at fault accident for 30 years or more of their driving career .According to the National Safety Council, the Safe Driver Award is the trademark of the expert driver and is recognized as the nation’s highest award for professional safe driving.   

Safe postal driving practices, like using seat belts, speed reduction, refraining from the use of hands-free devices that lead distracted driving and general defensive driving techniques, are among the Council’s tips for safe driving.

POSTAL FACTS:  How much driving does USPS really do?   The Postal Service uses 211,264 vehicles, driving more than 1.2 billion miles annually to deliver to America’s 153.9 million addresses.
