Anthony joined the Postal Service in 1957. He was just 19 years old at the time. At that time, he was active in the National Guard, and then the Army Reserves until 1966, and the inactive Army Reserves until 1974. Tony has seen many changes in 60 years! He says back then they would start at 2 a.m. when they would pick up mail from the train station that armed postal clerks sorted while it was in transit. Mail went out twice a day, making for long hours for a salary of $1.87 per hour. Tony has been on his current Route, Route 13 in New Canaan, for over 30 years. This 60 year Milestone is important to Tony, not just for the fact that he is providing customer service, but for the fact that he has endured all the changes of the times, has remained in good health, and been able to reach a point that not many have made. As long as Tony has his health, he plans to keep doing the job that he enjoys as long as he can, as well as he can. He loves his job, and most of all, he loves the people. |
