The Post Office Appreciates Your Trust

August 19, 2009

For the third year in a row, Americans have rated the U.S. Postal Service as the number one government agency they trust to protect their privacy.

Mr. Zip

Mr. Zip’s Tip: If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 26th in the 2008 Fortune 500. First-Class Mail, Advertising Mail and Shipping Services would each make the list as individual businesses—ranking 61st, 119th, and 310th respectively.

Overall, the Postal Service earned a rating of 83 percent in a recent Privacy Trust Study of the United States Government, conducted by Ponemon Institute L.L.C. The average trust score among the 60 agencies surveyed was 47 percent.

The Privacy Trust Study found that Americans remain concerned over a “loss of civil liberties and privacy rights,” “surveillance into personal life,” and “monitoring e-mail and Web activities.” While many federal agencies saw their ratings drop, the Postal Service was one of the few to increase both its customer satisfaction and trust scores.

The Post Office thanks its customers for their confidence. The Post Office appreciates your business and your trust, and looks forward to serving your mailing needs.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 149 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes, six days a week. It has 34,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services, not tax dollars, to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
