ZIP Code change for two delivery routes in Orange Park

Change shortens drive times for customers and reduces fuel consumption, labor and other costs

May 25, 2010

Postal customers at 618 addresses in Orange Park, Fla.received letters last week advising them their ZIP Code will change from 32065 to 32073 on June 19, 2010.

The change redirects mail for these addresses from delivery routes housed atthe 225 College DrivePost Office, to delivery routes housed at the 1335 Kingsley Avenue Post Office.

Customers residing at the 618 affected addresses, who are not home at the time of delivery, will pick up items requiring signature at 1335 Kingsley Avenue. This change will reduce drive time and fuel consumption for these customers.

Also, letter carriers serving the affected addresses will spend less time traveling to and from their routes. This savings in time, fuel and other costs will lower operational expenses this year and every year to come. It will also result in a modest—but real—reduction in carbon emissions.

Only residents notified by mail are affected. Those who did not receive a notice from the Postal Service need do nothing.

Those changing their ZIP Codes are asked to notify their correspondents as soon as practical. The change will be effective June 19 but the Postal Service will continue to deliver mail with the previous ZIPCode while customers notify those who send them mail.

Most bills provide an easy way to note changes in the address. Taking advantage of this option will save the cost of sending a separate notice.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
