National Hispanic Heritage Month

The Perfect Time to Stay Connected with Dinero Seguro

October 05, 2010

Miami FL — National Hispanic Heritage Month is the perfect time for families to remember their shared heritage, regardless of the miles that separate them. It’s also a time when many families wish to send money to relatives in Latin America or the Caribbean.

The U.S. Postal Service offers Dinero Seguro, also known as Sure Money, for those customers — providing a safe, affordable, convenient method of transferring money internationally.  Dinero Seguro enables customers to send up to $2,000 per transaction per day and is available at nearly 3,000 participating Post Offices across the United States. Identification is required for transfers exceeding $800.

The system uses secure, electronic wire transfers between the U.S. Postal Service and thousands of participating bank branch offices in destination countries. The recipient’s funds are available within 15 minutes — guaranteed — and without hidden or additional fees.  Personal identification is required  for the recipients of funds in the participating countries. Recipients do not need bank accounts and pay  no additional fees in their countries.

Dinero Seguro is provided in partnership with Bancomer Transfer Services Inc. of Houston. Participating financial institutions are:

  1. Argentina – BBVA Banco Frances
  2. Colombia – Banco Davivienda, BBVA Colombia
  3. Dominican Republic – Banco del Progresso
  4. Ecuador – Banco de Guayaquil, Banco del Austro, Banco Internacional
  5. El Salvador – Banco Agricola, Banco Credomatic, Banco Salvadoreno
  6. Guatemala – Banco Industrial, Banco de Desarrollo Rural
  7. Honduras – Banco Credomatic, Banco Mercantil, FICOHSA
  8. Mexico – BBVA Bancomer
  9. Nicaragua – Banco Credomatic, Banpro
  10. Peru – BBVA Banco Continental

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
