Every Door Direct Mail Makes It Easy And Economical To Grow Your Business

February 23, 2011

The U.S. Postal Service has made it even easier to use direct mail by offering “Every Door Direct Mail”  (EDDM) on any delivery route nationwide!  You can target a location without an address list, send out local mailings or national campaigns, build more traffic, find new customers, increase revenue and reduce mail preparation costs.  With Every Door Direct Mail, you can distribute flats (mailpieces measuring larger than 6 and 1/8 by 11 and ½  inches) without applying individual names and addresses on any delivery route nationwide.  In addition, you can distribute letter size mail (mail measuring at least 3 and ½ by five inches to as large as 6 and 1/8 by 11 and ½ inches) to any delivery route that is designated as rural or highway contract delivery.

Every Door Direct Mail is available only for standard mail.  A website has been established at https://smp.usps.gov to assist business owners.  Business owners can determine which delivery routes are within one to ten miles of their location and obtain current delivery counts for the routes they wish to target on the website.

To use Every Door Direct Mail you must apply for a bulk mail permit.  The application for a bulk mail permit is available at http://www.usps.com/forms/_pdf/ps3615.pdf.  The Fort Myers Business Mail Entry Unit located at 14080 Jetport Loop Rd offers permit service Monday through Friday from 10am to 2 pm.  Permit fees must be paid by cash or check.  To reach the Fort Myers Business Mail Entry Unit call 768-8000.  The Naples Business Mail Entry Unit located at 1200 Goodlette Rd offers permit service Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.  To reach the Naples Business Mail Entry Unit call 435-2146.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With 32,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $67 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 29th in the 2010 Fortune 500. Black Enterprise and Hispanic Business magazines ranked the Postal Service as a leader in workforce diversity. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency six consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
