The newest version of the Postal Service’s mobile iPhone application lets users schedule a next-day free package pickup, order expedited shipping supplies and scan package barcodes. These new features build on services already available through USPS online mobile technology, including the ability to use the track-and-confirm tool, locate nearby Post Offices and find a ZIP Code.
It will be easier for customers to conduct postal business when and where they want. Mobile devices have become a part of daily life for millions of Americans, and the Postal Service is providing solutions that meet their needs.
The USPS mobile app for iPhones will have a new home screen and new features. Among them, iPhone users will be able to schedule a next-day pickup. They’ll get email confirmations when the request is made, when the package is picked up and when the pickup request is modified or canceled. Users also can integrate the iPhone’s contact list with the app.
Another new feature will let iPhone users order free expedited shipping supplies, including letting them save order records on their iPhones. Also, the “calculate-a-price” feature has been upgraded to include both online and retail prices.
Now iPhone users will be able to order flat-rate shipping supplies at home, at work or on the go. And when they’re ready to ship their packages, they can schedule a pickup with the same ease and convenience.
Additionally, a new scanner feature will enable users to scan barcodes on USPS shipping labels and to scan “quick response” codes using the iPhone camera. The app stores the label number so users can easily check the status of their shipments.
Apple iPhones have a CARDS application which enables users to take a photo and create a greeting card to be delivered by the U.S. Postal Service for only $2.99.
USPS mobile apps also are available for BlackBerry and Android.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With 32,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $67 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 29th in the 2010 Fortune 500. Black Enterprise and Hispanic Business magazines ranked the Postal Service as a leader in workforce diversity. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency six consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
