Orlando FL — The mail is an important part of the daily lives of residents in Orlando. From small business owners who rely on the mail to deliver their products to children awaiting a birthday card from grandma to arrive. There is no denying the impact that mail has on all of us every day.
As the newly-appointed Orlando Postmaster, Jean Lovejoy is responsible for the overall operations for the City of Orlando’s 17 delivery units, 5 finance postal stores and the 895 employees who serve the community. She oversees operations to ensure accurate and consistent service is provided to the 8,216 business and 22,903 residential deliveries in the Orlando area.
“As we focus on becoming more competitive in the mailing industry, we are working hard on improving customer service, decreasing wait time in line, and creating easier, more convenient access to our products and services,” said Lovejoy. “I want to make sure that positive trend continues in Orlando.”
Lovejoy began her postal career as a letter carrier in 1987 in Tampa FL. She quickly ascended the ranks by accepting various positions of increasing responsibility in Customer Service and Delivery including Manager Customer Service, Postmaster, Manager Post Office Operations and Finance Manager. Lovejoy has received numerous awards for superior achievement and outstanding leadership from the Suncoast, Rio Grande, Greensboro and Atlanta Districts. Lovejoy is a 2011 Vice Presidential Award winner from Cap Metro Area and the Bill Bennett Award recipient for Employee of the Year as recognized by the AFL-CIO. Under her leadership, the Woodstock Post Office achieved a perfect score on their postal safety audit (PEG) meeting OSHA requirements and became the first to be awarded the Voluntary Protection Plan (VPP) in the Atlanta District. Additionally, the U.S. House of Representatives-110th Congress recognized Lovejoy with a Congressional Record Tribute as Postal Ambassador for her contributions in support of the Brownsville TX community.
Lovejoy is a graduate of the University of Phoenix where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. She also holds an Associate of Science degree in Accounting from Burlington Community College. A native of Sarasota FL, she graduated from Booker High School with the class of 1982. She has been married for 29 years to Dr. Larry Lovejoy and they have a son, Larry Lovejoy II.
As Postmaster, Lovejoy also looks forward to her new role in the community as Postal Co-chair for the Central Florida Postal Customer Council (PCC). Recently, the PCC earned gold level status and national recognition, serving as an open channel for USPS-to-business communication, providing information and best practices for cost-effective and efficient mailing, education, and training.
