HERNANDO, FL — Local Post Office box customers in Hernando will begin using a new ZIP Code effective June 9, 2012. Box customers currently using Hernando FL 34442 will now use Hernando FL 34441.

“This new ZIP Code of 34441 has been established only for Post Office boxes,” said Hernando Officer-in-Charge Denise Tousignant. “Customers who have a physical street address will continue using the 34442 ZIP Code."

The change was made as part of the Postal Service’s efforts to streamline transportation expenses, according to Tousignant. “We will notify each affected customer by mail and let local government and utilities know of this change.”

Customers will not be required to change any portion of their address other than the ZIP Code.

The Postal Service will continue to deliver mail bearing the old ZIP Code for one year and return to the sender for an additional six months with the new address provided.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience customers may experience as a result of this change. However, we are committed to providing quality service in the most cost effective way possible,” said Tousignant.
