Letter Carrier Thornell Strawn will receive the highest recognition from the U.S. Postmaster General (PMG) on April 17 when Clearwater Postmaster Doug Fiedler presents Strawn with a letter from the PMG, commending him for his selfless display of civic duty.

Letter Carrier Strawn’s day started out as a normal day.  It quickly changed while he was delivering his mail and noticed a man breaking into a house.  He immediately notified law enforcement.  His quick actions and willingness to get involved helped the Clearwater Police Department apprehend the intruder. Clearwater Chief of Police Anthony Holloway will commend Letter Carrier Strawn during the April 17 event.

Letter carriers serve as the eyes and ears of the community and their awareness has proven instrumental time and time again. Each year, postal employees go beyond the call of duty, some even risking their own safety to save the lives of the customers they serve.  In 2013, the Postal Service recognized 262 employee heroes.
