JACKSONVILLE, FL — Today the U.S. Postal Service Gulf Atlantic District resumed providing postal services on a limited basis, including some mail delivery and collections, and retail services at Post Offices where possible in North Florida ZIP code areas beginning with 320 and 322, which includes Jacksonville, FL, and the surrounding area.
The Postal Service urges customers interested in information about a specific Post Office to call 1-800 ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777). Operators have been provided specific information regarding delivery and retail services for each office in the areas affected by Hurricane Matthew.
“Postal Service employees are making every effort to provide service as soon as possible to all of our customers in the North Florida and South Georgia areas affected by the storm. Today, we will begin providing regular postal services in Jacksonville and the surrounding area as local circumstances permit, and where we can ensure the safety of our customers and employees,” said Gulf Atlantic District Manager David Martin. “We are asking customers to please remove debris from the path to their mailboxes so that mail delivery can be made. We sincerely appreciate our customers’ understanding and cooperation as we recover from the storm.”
In order to assure mail delivery to your affected area, please observe the following:
- Be sure no debris or obstructions block access to your mailbox.
- If your mailbox is badly damaged or destroyed, please replace it with a secure, USPS approved receptacle with your address clearly displayed in order for your letter carrier to leave your mail at your residence. Mail cannot be delivered unless an appropriate receptacle is provided.
- If your residence is uninhabitable, please contact your delivery Post Office to request a 30-day hold on your mail or to complete a Change-of-Address card to facilitate the delivery of your mail to a valid temporary or new permanent address. Change-of-Address cards are available at your local Post Office. Change of address information can be also filed on the Postal Service website at www.usps.com
- If you file a temporary change of address, be sure to cancel it once you return to your residence or if you file a new temporary or permanent change of address.
South Georgia Post Offices in ZIP Code areas beginning with 313, 314 and 315 are closed today and mail will not be delivered. All Post Offices in the Gulf Atlantic District are scheduled to resume normal business hours on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
The Postal Service will observe the Columbus Day Holiday on Monday, October 10. All Post Office retail operations will be closed; however, in an effort to get customer’s important mail to them as soon as possible, mail some mail delivery and collections will be made Monday as local circumstances permit.
