USPS Takes Precautionary Measures: Adjusts Operations In Florida Panhandle

Jacksonville, FL — The U.S. Postal Service Gulf Atlantic District is preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Michael by advising customers that normal service operations in the path of the storm may be affected in the event of unsafe conditions such as high winds, flooding, or impassable roads.

Postal Service employees in the USPS Gulf Atlantic District’s area will be working around-the-clock to secure the mail, postal facilities and equipment in advance of the arrival of Hurricane Michael.  This includes all postal operations with the first three ZIP Code digits 323, 324 and 326.

The Postal Service may suspend mail delivery and retail operations in some coastal areas now affected by the approach of Hurricane Michael. For the latest information on USPS service updates, check: https://about.usps.com/news/service-alerts/  

On  Oct. 9, some low-lying portions of Florida Panhandle Post Offices, are under emergency evacuation orders with the first three ZIP Code digits beginning with 323, 324 and 326, and may be closed on Wednesday.  There will be no mail delivery, mail collections or retail services available in some of these locations until evacuation orders are cancelled and postal facilities can be safely accessed by customers and employees.

In anticipation of severe storm conditions upon the arrival of Hurricane Michael, the mail processing plant in Tallahassee will shut down operations at 7 a.m. on Oct. 10, and will not be accepting drop shipments. The Tallahassee Processing & Distribution Center expects to resume full operations at 8 a.m.,  Oct. 11.
