New Postage Rates Set to Take Effect on May 11, 2009

DULUTH, GA—Postal officials want to remind you that prices for most mailing services – including First-Class Mail, Standard Mail, Periodicals (newspapers and magazines), Package Services (retail Parcel Post), and Special Services will be adjusted on Monday, May 11, 2009.

Customers can continue to mail letters at today’s prices by purchasing the Forever Stamp before May 11. Forever Stamps are honored whenever they are used with no need for additional postage for a once-ounce letter.

For the average household, the First-Class Mail stamp price change will represent an additional $3 a year over the course of the year. The average price increases are in line with the change in the Consumer Price Index. Highlights of the rate adjustment include:
