Automated Postal Center Now at the Hinesville Post Office

June 30, 2009

DULUTH, GA—As part of an ongoing effort to provide quick, easy, and convenient access, the Postal Service™ is introducing an Automated Postal Center (APC) self-service kiosk at the Hinesville Post Office, 744 W Oglethorpe Hwy. The APC was installed on June 10, 2009.

“APCs provide a simple way for customers to weigh, calculate and apply exact postage for mailing Express Mail® and Priority Mail® items, packages, and First-Class Mail® letters,” says Postmaster David Taylor. “And they help provide quicker service during busy periods. Making our services available 24/7 will make it easier than ever for customers to do business with us at their convenience. Now that’s a real benefit.”

APCs provide easy access to postal products and services just as automated teller machines (ATMs) provide easy access to banking services. And, unlike most ATMs, APCs don’t charge a service fee. APCs accept debit and credit cards for payment of postage or to pay your P.O. Box rent. They provide mailing information, ZIP Code™ lookup, Delivery Confirmation™ service, as well as other services.

Post Office retail associates will continue to assist customers with more complex face-to-face transactions such as mailing packages to international locations, Registered Mail™ and money order transactions, and handling passport applications.

APCs have been in use at Post Offices since 1999. The Hinesville APC is one of 2,500 that have been installed nationwide. Customers have found their ease of use and availability outside of normal business hours to be a big plus.

Like ATMs, APCs will eventually be located in high-traffic public access areas. The Postal Service is following the banking industry’s ATM introduction strategy by having employees assist customers with initial transactions when APCs first appear in Post Office lobbies. Customers are invited to come by the Hinesville Post Office and try it out!
