Latrelle R. McDowell Is Appointed As New St. George Postmaster

SAINT GEORGE – After having served for just over a year as the acting Postmaster (or Officer-in-Charge), Latrelle McDowell was appointed Postmaster of the St. George, Georgia Post Office on March 13, 2010.  Serving the citizens of Charlton County and the St. George area, Mrs. McDowell looks forward to using her Postal Service experience to give the best service possible to all customers.

Mrs. McDowell began her postal career as a distribution clerk in the Brunswick, Georgia Post office in 1988.  She later became secretary to the Brunswick Postmaster until she transferred to her hometown of Folkston, Georgia in 1991 as a distribution and window clerk.  In April of 2000, she became a city letter carrier in Folkston.

Along the way, she gained management experience by becoming the Officer-in-Charge in Meridian, Georgia; White Oak, Georgia and later in St. George beginning in March of 2009.  This is her first official appointment as Postmaster.

“I am anxious to further serve our customers, said McDowell, “In addition to good service, I want our customers to know the St. George Post Office is soon being added to the Postal Service’s Lobby Recycling Program which not only helps the environment, it generates revenue for the Postal Service — $5 million in Fiscal Year 2009.”

Mrs. McDowell has remained active in her hometown community of Folkston while pursuing her career with the United States Postal Service.  Her activities include Volunteer for the Okefenokee Wildlife League; Local, District and State Officer of the Georgia Women Active for Christ; church officer and pianist; Member of the Roddenberry Sisters Singers and many other active roles in her community and church.
