ATLANTA — Mail will be delivered Sunday in several metro Atlanta area neighborhoods where roadways, streets and mailboxes are safely accessible.

As the winter storm continues, Postal officials are reminding the general public to please keep mailboxes, steps, and sidewalks clear of snow and ice so letter carriers are able to provide the safest, most efficient delivery service possible.

Postal employees make every reasonable effort to deliver the mail in many difficult weather conditions. At the same time, we must ensure the safety of our carriers along their routes. Carriers are not allowed to attempt door delivery when there is a heavy buildup of snow and ice on sidewalks, steps or porches. They are not allowed to dismount for curbside boxes blocked by snow and ice buildup.

“We would like to thank residents and businesses throughout the metro Atlanta area for their efforts to clear walkways and mailboxes of ice and snow,” District Manager Sam Jaudon said. “We are honored to deliver mail service to you and appreciate your efforts to keep our carriers safe, especially during our busiest season of the year.”

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
