Gavin Sakagawa to be Installed as Lihue Postmaster

Public Invited to Attend, Meet Sakagawa at July 23 Event

HONOLULU – Gavin Sakagawa will be officially installed as the Lihue Postmaster at a special program scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, July 23 at the Lihue Post Office at 4441 Rice Street. The community is invited to attend the installation and meet Sakagawa.

Sakagawa has been serving as the Postmaster of the Lihue Post Office since Feb. 13. He replaced Mark Gowan, who retired.

As Lihue Postmaster, Sakagawa supervises 35 postal employees and the daily processing and distribution of up to 350,000 pieces of mail to 2,600 PO Boxes and more than 5,300 addresses on 9 delivery routes in the communities of Hanamaulu, Lihue and Puhi.

He is a 4-year postal employee who had previously served as Officer-in-Charge of the Laie Post Office and as the Customer Service Supervisor at the Waialae Kahala Station, on Oahu. He began his postal career as a relief supervisor at various postal offices on Oahu.

“I’m excited and enthusiastic about this opportunity,” said Sakagawa. “My goal is to provide the best possible service to my customers, to ensure the security of the mail and to uphold the image of the Postal Service on Kauai. I’d like to thank my parents for their guidance and support and all who have supported, mentored and believed in me in my career.”

Sakagawa is a graduate of Kalani High School and the University of Hawaii, and currently resides in Kalaheo. His hobbies include golf, fishing, diving, softball and exercising in general.
